Floyd Landis

Professional Cyclist Floyd Landis chats to Gayle Gordon of Los Gatos, California after signing his autograph on a receipt for her. Landis who made an appearance at the start of Stage 6 of the Amgen Tour of California on Saturday morning won the 2006 Amgen Tour of California as well as the 2006 Tour de France but was found guilty of doping. However he made a strong appeal and is still the official winner of the Tour de France, one of only three Americans to enjoy that honor. The decision to actually strip Landis of his title has yet to be made by the International Cycling Union but under their rules the decision must first be made by the cyclist's national federation which in this case is USA Cycling. USA Cycling handed the matter over to the US Anti-Doping Agency. Landis is due to appear before them on May 14. In the meantime Landis strongly maintains his innocence and a large body of support is growing for him as the doping procedures themselves have come under questioning. Landis has also agreed not to compete in the 2007 Tour de France. Ian Vorster 022407
